  1. Key Results

A number of key trends in the current stage of Armenian language development, and main features of word usage were outlined; separate layers ​​of the vocabulary, the term system development, term systems of various conceptual theories have been structurally and semantically analyzed; some features characteristic to Eastern Armenian variant and its colloquial speech were discovered and studied; interrelations between colloquial speech and literary language were observed; dictionaries contributing to orthography and word-usage and regulating term system of Modern Armenian language were compiled, guide-books aimed at the exclusion of wrong and unnecessary occurrences of word-forms and speech units in literary language were prepared. A description of compounding and derivative patterns in modern Armenian was given; synthetic and derivative patterns were presented together with their form description giving the grammatical forms and phonetic structure of their stems.

Work has been undertaken in order to fulfill a comprehensive and systematic study of Western Armenian. The consonant sound system, word-stock, and a number of grammatical realities of Modern Western Armenian have been investigated; the literary language of Constantinople underwent a socio-linguistic examination; the language peculiarities of Armenian press of Constantinople were observed, and the linguistic features of Syrian Armenians were studied.

Within the material provided by etymological dictionaries, ​​a number of etymological refinements and additions were made; foreign words and proper names which took place in the Armenian bibliography of the fifth century were studied; the word-building features and morphological-semantic groups of the vocabulary of works after a number of historians were studied. The language status of the 13th-15th centuries’ old religious literature in Grabar was identified. A number of issues relating to the terminology development, medieval manuscript dictionaries of homonyms, medical reference books, vocabulary and linguistic characteristics of Armenian manuscripts were clarified.

The demonstration of Indo-European verb tense and form stems in Armenian language has been presented. The study and description of pronouns, structures of the verb mood and tense forms in Armenian dialects, and nominal verbal predicative tense forms in the Eastern Armenian dialects were completed and summed up.

Considerable work has been done in the direction of a separate and comparative study of dialectical lexicon, its thematic groups and dialectical realities, at the same time touching upon theoretical questions of dialectology and directed to compiling wordlists.
