1984-1987 - Yerevan, postgraduate course at the Institute of Language after R. Acharyan of the Academy of Sciences. Thesis: "Combinatorial sound changes in the modern Armenian language", PhD

1987-1993 - Institute of Language after R.Acharyan, scientific officer
1993 -1998 - Gavar State University, lecturer.
1998 - 2004 - Gavar State University, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
2004 - Present - Gavar State University, Dean of the Faculty of Philology 
2013 - Director of the Institute of Language after R.Acharyan of  NAS, RA.

Dr. Katvalyan has the rank of reserve officer. He is an author of more than 30 scientific articles and 4 work. Associate Professor of the Higher Attestation Commission and Professor of GSU.
